Airbnb is our first port of call when we’re heading off on a city break. Whether it’s London, Amsterdam, Barcelona or Paris, those eclectic lofts and quirky houseboats solve all our accommodation dilemmas, and leave us a little leftover cash to spend on sangria. It looks like it’s not just us, either – diva Mariah Carey recently stayed in a luxury Malibu beach house before jetting off to perform across the globe. We’re talking marble floors, multiple dining areas, an indoor pool and huge bathroom – all for the hefty price of $10,000 a night.
Mariah’s not the only one – celebrities can’t seem to get enough of the home-sharing site, choosing to rent-a-room for both work and play. Rock star Jimi Hendrix made sweet music in this Hawaii Gingerbread House back in the ‘70s, a cute wooden hideaway surrounded by palm and avocado trees. A little more compact than Mariah’s sprawling mansion, this shack is yours for £109 per night.
Benedict Cumberbatch donned his detective hat to film Sherlock in South Wales (‘A Scandal In Belgravia’?! Lies…). You can stay at the scene of the crime for £365 a night; 6 bedrooms, 8 beds, 4.5 bathrooms, this property actually has a touch of Scottish charm about it, despite it’s Welsh position. Pretty grand.

This is the best function room in the city. The food they served at New York venues was warm, fresh and tasty, and the panoramic window is a sight to behold on a clear day. Their main hall was similar to a club/lounge – however, it had more of an intimate feel.
